The Catalonia CarSharing society was founded by the FMSS. Currently, after several capital increases, the foundation owns 8% of the shares and has a representative on its board of directors.
The incorporation at the end of 2009 of the North American firm Zipcar, the world's leading car-sharing operator, as a shareholder in the company will represent a new phase in the implementation of car-sharing in Spain. On the other hand, in recent months two operators have started the car-sharing service in Madrid, Connect by Hertz y Respiro. The appearance of these two operators in the capital of Spain, together with the consolidation of Catalan car-sharing, suggests a future rapid expansion throughout the Spanish geography of this type of shared car fleet.
In March 2010, the company, which now operates under the Avancar trademark, had already reached 3,700 customers who shared a fleet of 117 cars located in 38 car parks in Barcelona, Sabadell, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Granollers.
